UPDATED! Hiring: Coordinator for Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

Updated: Apr 7, 2022

UPDATE: We have added some duties to this position and it is now a full time position that includes Preparing children for the sacraments of First Reconcliation and First Eucharist and for Baptism through the RCIA adapted for Children. The official ad below has been updated.

Many of you have heard me say that the biggest challenges facing our parishes right now is staffing, especially in the area of faith formation. Last spring we searched for a person to direct our children’s programs and came up empty handed.

This is not bad. It tells me that God wants us to think outside of the box and try something different. So, that is what we are going to try to do. We are going to consider different ways of doing faith formation, especially for children in the parish.

One of the most successful programs is called Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS). I first heard of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd when my friends enrolled their child. They loved it! I got to see CGS up close in my first assignment at St. Anthony’s in Renton, which offered it for children ages 3-12. The kids who participated in CGS retained the faith like I have not seen anywhere else, and I would love to see this come to our local parishes.

But we need the right person to step forward. The right person needs to be very passionate for the Catholic Faith, but they also need to be a believer in the CGS style of catechesis (which is akin to Montessori education). Ideally, they will have some familiarity with CGS in the past, but it is not absolutely required. Please visit the CGS website for more information on CGS and how it works: Click Here.

Next year (2022-23) we hope to implement Level 1 CGS in our local parishes. The following year (2023-24) we hope to implement level 2. We will then implement level 3 as students pass through level two. This is a part time position, and there will be a lot of work to do to prepare us for this fall, so please apply as soon as possible. Applications are due by Monday, April 10th.

As always, please pray that if God wants this to happen that he brings us the right person to lead this initiative. Here is the official job ad:
